Louis J. Stewart earned his bachelor of arts degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1973. He continued his education at the University of Chicago where he earned his masters in business administration degree with a dual concentration in accounting and finance. Following his graduation from the University of Chicago in June 1975 Louis worked as a financial analyst at the United Way of Chicago, the controller of Chicago Child Care Society, and the chief financial officer of the Englewood Community Health Organization over the next seventeen years. He earned his CPA during this time.

After a successful career Louis earned a doctorate in business administration majoring in accounting from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Professor Stewart then joined the faculty of the School of Business & Industry at Florida A&M University where he taught undergraduate and graduate accounting courses for four years. In May 2000, he joined the healthcare management and finance faculty of the Robert Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. Professor Stewart taught financial management for healthcare and nonprofit organizations to NYU’s MPA students. In September 2003, Professor Stewart joined the Accounting and Business Law Department at School of Business, Public Administration, and Information Sciences at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. In September 2005, he joined Kean University as Associate Professor of Accounting where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting. In September 2007, he took his current position of Associate Professor of Accounting at Howard University where he currently teaches undergraduate courses in accounting.
