Dr. Maryam Khan joined the Department
of Management in 2000, after serving as Visiting Professor
at George Washington University, Washington, DC, Adjunct Professor at Virginia
Tech, Northern Virginia, Professor at Strayer University,
Virginia, and Professor at Stratford University, Virginia. Her
primary research areas of interest include: Price Discount
Levels and Formats in Service Industries, The Lodging Industry
Moving Forward In spite of New Challenges, Diversity Challenges
in the Hospitality Industry, Fast-Food Preferences of African-American
Students, and several others. She has taught: Foodservice
Management, Convention and Meeting Planning, Lodging and
Facility Management, Club Management, Introduction to Hospitality
Management, Hotel and Motel Management, Hospitality Marketing,
Cost Control in Foodservice, Human Resources Management,
International Hotel Management, and Organizational Behavior. She
is actively involved in a number of committees including: Recruitment,
Faculty and Teaching Committees. Khan is on the list
of experts of National Geographic Society’s Sustainable
Tourism Initiative to participate on a virtual panel on matters
relating to the initiative, and more recently has received
an invitation to join the DC School’s Hospitality Advisory
Committee in Washington DC. Khan holds a Ph.D. in Hospitality
and Tourism Management and a Certificate in International
Research and Development from Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and State University, Blacksburg, VA, and an MS in Human
Resources and Family Study from the University of Illinois,
Urbana-Champaign, IL.
